Media Attention Drives Miranda Lambert to Top of
Chart - Her debut album Kerosene
is at No. 1 on the Billboard
Top Country Albums chart and Top of the Texas
Music Chart! In addition to debuting at the top
of Billboard's Top Country Albums, Lambert's Kerosene also debuted
at No. 18 on the all-genre Billboard 200. Without the benefit of a smash
single, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter sold approximately 40,000 copies of
her album. Her debut single, "Me and Charlie Talking," peaked last
week at No. 27, but her record label will begin aggressively seeking radio
airplay for her second single, "Bring Me Down," on April 4.

Gibson Views Shaver Documentary

Actor-director Mel Gibson was among about 50 people who turned up Monday (March
29) in West Hollywood, Calif., for a private screening of The Portrait of Billy
Joe, a new documentary about legendary singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver. Actor
Robert Duvall is executive producer of the film directed by his longtime
girlfriend, Luciana Pedraza. A spokesman for Duvall's production company,
Butchers Run Films, said Gibson doesn't have any ties to either Duvall or
Pedraza but was invited to the screening because the Christian themes running
through the Shaver documentary are in keeping with Gibson's film The Passion of
the Christ. The Portrait of Billy Joe will also be screened at the Nashville
Film Festival on April 27.
Texas singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver took his show to Hollywood club The Knitting Factory, where he played to a star-studded audience Monday night (March 1). Actor Luke Wilson -- a fellow Texan -- listened intently from the balcony as Academy Award-winner Robert Duvall danced with a friend nearby. Shaver recently co-starred with Wilson, his brother, Owen Wilson, and Kris Kristofferson in The Wendell Baker Story (a film also written and directed by Luke Wilson). The singer worked with Duvall on the big screen in the 1997 film The Apostle. Duvall's longtime girlfriend, Luciana Pedraza, has just finished The Portrait of Billy Joe, a documentary that will debut this month at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Shaver told CMT News that country fan Kid Rock will produce his next album. The two met through mutual friend David Allan Coe.

2004. Luke Wilson wrote the script and
directed it with his brother Andrew. Luke's brother Owen and Kris
Kristofferson star in the movie, which was filmed in Austin, Texas. Shaver has
also had roles in The Apostle and Secondhand Lions. A documentary about Shaver's
life, Portrait of Billy Joe, has been on the film festival circuit this year
with great success and will soon be available on DVD.
