Billy Mata and his band, The Texas Tradition is some of the finest group of musicians Texas has to offer. Chance........
We've heard this word all our lives, kinda like a handshake, it still means something to a lot of us even in this day and age. AW Love's new début CD in this music industry is nothin' less than top notch, I'm telling you. AW has worked ranches all over the Southwest and his music reflects the true feelings a cowboy goes through daily. His most distinctive trait is pure and although West Texas Dreams is AW's first album, we can look for more down the trail.
AW Love didn't have any problems gatherin' some of the finest musicians in the country for this project with the likes of western swing Hall of Famer Jimmy Young on fiddle, Rick Faucett on steel guitar and dobro and Bob Hopkins on piano. Gary Thompson on electric and acoustic guitar, Chuck Alexander and David Fike on bass, Jay Weeks on drums, Ronnie Fleming on mandola and manchella.
Some fine background vocals by Kelli Self, Carlos Casso, Sheryl Lane and Chuck Alexander. West Texas Dreams is produced by Carlos Casso.
I have been playing AW Love's West Texas Dreams CD on my radio show here in Ruidoso, New Mexico and have received a positive response from my listeners here in New Mexico and West Texas.
We, now come back to that word we all know, Chance................
I gave AW Love a chance on my radio show and I am not only impressed with his style, music and professionalism but a friend as well. Here's your chance!

Artist: Brian Burns
Hometown: Euless, Texas
CD: The Eagle & The Snake
Producer: Marc Thompson, Mark Akins
Label: Palo Duro Records
Released: 2003

As the credits are read in every compact disc, you’ll notice that the artists will always acknowledge and thank everyone who helped in their project. I would certainly like to send out my thanks to Brian Burns and Palo Duro Records for making this sensational CD. “The Eagle and the Snake!” This album is definitely Songs of the Texians. You’ll be extremely pleased as you hear Brian’s selections and the format he used to send this extraordinary message to you. From his trilogy of the Texas Revolution with the Travis letter plea’ing for help and support and ending with Goliad to Hank Snow’s answer to I’ve been everywhere, Brian does this cut “Texas Style”. Three Texas favorites eased in with Brian, including Larry Joe Taylor in Third Coast, Gary P. Nunn on Well of the Blues and My good friend Tom Russell in El Llano Estacado. The last track on this album will not only take you back in history but send you mach five into the future in an Airflow Jet Chrysler
With “The last living Cowboy!” Looks like Brian had no problems hand pickin’ his musicians, Gary Carpenter, Joe Forlini, Tommy Alverson, Zack Taylor, Mark Fishback, Flaco Weberneck, Davin James, Larry Joe Taylor, Tom Russell and Gary P. Nunn, The finest in the country, I’d say. This CD is definitely on its way to becoming album of the year. Artist: Jody Nix
Hometown: Big Spring, Texas
The Band: The Texas Cowboys
Title: Play Me Something I Can Swing To
Producer: Jody Nix
Released: 2003

Jody Nix was taught early in life the true meaning of perfection. When conversations turn to swing music, his name will always come up as one of the best in the business today. On compact disc or on stage, Jody Nix and his Texas Cowboys has this unique style of perfection down to an art, something one will recognize in their shows. It comes naturally, as you can see and hear in every song, at the same time, having fun doing it. Jody's new album, Play Me Something I Can Swing To has been a long time coming, but it was well worth the wait. The title track brings out the sensational songwriting talent that Jody has always had. And there are many songs on this CD that we haven't heard in a while. Jody adds special family secret ingredients and boom - Western Swing! Jody's cultivated his own style on the fiddle as well as his smooth western voice, keeps folks on the dance floor.
Some of the top swing musicians in the country make up the Texas Cowboys. Bob Kelly on Steel Guitar, Robert Weeks on fiddle, Larry Nix on bass and harmony vocals, Ken Kelly on drums and Rick McRae on guitars.
Play Me Something I Can Swing To is Jody Nix's best. I play Jody’s music on my radio show and get many requests for it weekly. I would recommend this CD to anyone as it should be in your western swing music library now.
Our mutual friend Dugg Collins said it best and I will have to agree, "This one, in my opinion, is his best to date!"   To purchase Jody Nix CD, "Play Me Something I Can Swing To" go to: www.jodynix.com

Artist: Howard Kalish
Hometown: Austin, Texas
Album: What The Hey
Label: Behemoth Records
Producer: Howard Kalish & George Coyne
Released: 2003

The most important ingredient in any band that is going to be successful, is the sidemen or the members of the group and the talent they bring with them. About five years age, a selected few of these sidemen have produced their own compilations using their own material or remaking some of their favorite old standards and making a name for themselves. When I hear a new CD by a sideman, I really get excited and that little nerve in my leg gets to twitchin'. As I was just tearing off the wrapper on Howard Kalish's new CD, "What The Hey" that little nerve had descended down to my foot and I was already toe-tappin' before I heard the first note. I'm telling you folks, I wasn't disappointed and I also know that you won't be either.
Howard sure didn’t just stumble on these great musicians and say “let’s do a CD.” The Pure Texas Band is one of the best in the country today. The Texas legend Don Walser did a super job with his great voice along with the harmony vocals of a friend of mine, Justin Trevino. Rick McRae and Dave Biller on Rhythm Guitar and Scott Walls on the Pedal Steel. Skinny Don Keeling and Lynn Daniel on Bass Guitar and Phillip Fajardo, Ernie Durawa and Timmy Campbell on Drums. Another good friend of mine,” Magic Fingers, Floyd Domino” on Piano. Howard does what he does best on the Fiddle and the five string electric Mandolin. Fifteen tracks on this western swing album with nine showcasing Howard's exceptional songwriting talents. I close my eyes and “ It’s Dark All Over The World”, a Cornell Hurd tune will really jiggle that little nerve. Don Walser does a great job with it as well. This is one new album you’ll want in your western swing music library for sure. You can purchase “What The Hey” by going to Howard's Website at: www.Howardkalishmusic.com

Artist: Jim Raby
Title: Until Now
Hometown: Alpine, Texas
Producers: Mike Hillger & Jim Raby
Label: TTD Records
Released: 2003

What an enlightening change for true honky-tonk music. We hear a new honky-tonk album to find out there's two or three out of twelve tracks that are good honky-tonk dance music, Until Now. Jim has proven his songwriting talent belongs in the Awesome category, along with his great singing voice, combined with some of the finest musicians in the country. I hear some exceptional folks releasing their first album and wonder, where has these artists been all this time. My thoughts of this truly belong to Jim Raby. This CD was well worth the wait. Jim has, over the years, cultivated a style that will go on forever, unmatched. Jim's multi-talented musician - producer, Mike Hillger shows the way on the mandolin, as well as the fiddle. Jim Gerrish on piano and keyboards, Victor Molinar on steel guitar, Ronnie Yandell on the drums and Yadon Hardaway on bass guitar. Jim Raby does the acoustic guitar justice along with Mike Hellger, Zack Casey and Tony Lujan. And on the electric guitar is Jim Hellger, Tony Lujan and Zack Casey. A new voice to the airwaves, Jim Raby has this unique kind of talent that's a real ear catcher, you know, the kind that makes that little nerve in your leg start "twitchin', it'll eventually get down to your foot, next thing you know, your toes are tappin'! Artist: Clay Potter
CD: A Good Time For A Change
Year Released: 2003
Rettop Records
Hometown: Nevada, Texas

I know this is going to sound more strange that true but I'm telling you folks, I sincerely had this thought race through my mind several months ago when I was requesting my own a copy of Clay Potter's last album, "A New Man Now". My very first impression of Clay, who works as an electrician in the family owned business ,was "Its A Good Time For A Change!" My meaning for explaining my thoughts are, that the Country music industry had best look out, Here comes Clay Potter. Ten self penned songs and four co-written by Clay reflects his strong desire as a songwriter. From the very start, Clay has cultivated his unique style, not only as a songwriter but an entertainer. It’s simply very good music presented by a man who is well respected as he soars to the top of his craft. It’s extremely hard to pick favorites on this CD, for every song means something special . If I were to attempt this, first I would definitely choose the title cut along with#11, Going Nowhere. I play Clay Potter’s music on my Backforty Bunkhouse Radio Show and you’ll want it in your music library as well.  To purchase any of Clay’s music, check out his website at www.clayapotter.com.

Artist: Kacey Musgraves
Album: Wanted: One Good Cowboy
Year Released: 2002
Other Releases: Movin' On (2001)
Hometown: Mineola,Texas

Janet McBride and I have been friends for many years. I had seen Janet at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum's "Cowboy Days" in Las Cruces, NM shortly after Kacey's first release Movin' On. Janet has always shared her "students" with me and has never stirred me wrong. Kacey Musgraves is by far, no exception. I about had Movin' On, wore out before I got the chance to play it on the air. At that point, I sincerely believed that this was the best it could get, as every song on Movin'On is awesome and would get tremendous airplay, not only from The Backforty Bunkhouse Show, but all western radio stations across the country and overseas.
Then came "Wanted; One Good Cowboy!" This new CD is loaded with Talent. Kacey has cultivated a style that will follow her for the rest of her life. At the age of 14 and accomplishing what she has done to this point in her life has Kacey destined to become a legend in western music not only as an entertainer but a songwriter as well.  I, as a western music disc jockey, am honored to have Kacey Musgraves as a friend. Once you hear Kacey's Music, you'll want both of her CD releases in your western music library. key west-the band
Compact Disc: ALIVE CD-LIFE IS GOOD
Year Released-2002

Life is good and once you hear KEY WEST, the band, you'll positively feel this to be an understatement to the fact. The first time I listened to this CD my mind raced to reliving the great sounds of Jimmy Buffett and it doesn't stop there. These guys are super talented and their songwriting abilities prove it. KEY WEST has played all over the country from Texas to Alabama to Florida to New Mexico, They have even performed in old Mexico to literally hundreds of venues. With their tropical sound, KEY WEST is in high demand, playing well over one hundred shows each year. And KEY WEST has been one of the most successful bands playing the Gulf Coast region for many years. Just by listening to their CD, I know these guys know how to party and include audience participation at every live performance. Since January, 1993, KEY WEST's band members David Lott, Tod Stark, Arthur Ford, Todd Howard, Mark Hammond, Matt Bell and Johnny Chambers have cultivated a style all their own and every show is a celebration of life. Kinda reminds you of the Outback Steakhouse, "No Rules-Life Is Good!" I think that when you combine the exceptional talent of KEY WEST along with the engineering by multi-Grammy award winning Randy Miller, you have all the ingredients for band of the year. I would not miss the chance to see these guys perform for "Life Is Good" KEY WEST, the band. You can purchase KEY WEST, the band CD's at www.keywesttheband.com

When I first listened to Brian's first album "Never Look Back" released back in 1998, the very first thing that came to mind was, Brian is a songwriter, as an entertainer, can he deliver his songs in the manner they were written. WOW', was I ever impressed! Three years went by and in October, 2001, Brian released his second of what will be many more to come, album "SON OF A COMMON MAN".  As most of us can relate to Brian’s music because we’ve all been there and being on an independent Label, Brian Houser proves Singer/Songwriters are very good at what they do and his talent is unlimited.
